Loft Project owns five night clubs in Tokyo.

 

1.      “Shinjuku Loft” is music night club in (#1)Kabukicho.

2.      “Shinjuku Loft Plus One” is (#2)Talk Live House (Talk Live Show) club in Kabukicho.

3.      “Naked Loft” is music & talk live show in Kabukicho.

4.      “Shimokitazawa Shelter” is music night club in Shimokitazawa.

5.      “Asagaya Loft A” is music & talk live show in Asagaya.

 

The Loft Project has been creating a vision of Japanese music for 40 years, and also creating Japanese sub-culture for the history and the future.

 

Also, Loft project owns several music labels, management companies, visual label departments, concert/event production company, free music&sub-cultural newspaper; publishing company, recording studio companies in Loft Project.

We manage distributions ourselves.

(#1）Kabukicho (歌舞伎町)

Kabukicho is located at Shinjuku in Tokyo. There are a lot of restaurants, play spots, movie theaters, night clubs or shops in this area. Also, a lot love hotels, massage parlours, hostess clubs are in there. It is called a “sleepless town”.

Shinjuku station is connected by many subways and trains, and Kabukicho is next to Seibu-Shinjuku station.

 

【Shinjuku LOFT】

Loft was created in 1971 at Chitosekarasuyama (in Tokyo). Loft has been started as a new style music club which is mixed up Jazz, Rock, and Folk. This was Karasuyama Loft, and also Nishiogikubo Loft was opened in 1973, Ogikubo Loft was opened in 1974, Shimokitazawa Loft was opened in 1975. Then, Loft has been creating Japanese Folk, new music, and Rock for long years. In 1976, the world was recognized Rock as a culture in this year, and Shinjuku Loft was opened at Nishi-Shinjuku (Nishi means west side) on the basement floor in a building. Shinjuku Loft had capacity of 300 people.

 

Around this year, Folk was moving to new music in Japan, and other kinds of the music were seemed not to be recognized. Then, Loft has been a place where communicates all kinds of music. Loft has been helped a lot of musicians who will be major artists.

 

In 1992, Loft had the problem of an eviction in the court, and Loft lost a case. However, many musicians participated in the event ”KEEP THE LOFT” which tried to appeal and help Loft. Over 18000 people participated in a signature campaign. Then, Loft reconciled with the building landowner.

In 1997, 20-year anniversary was taken place at Nippon Budokan, where is one of the most famous stadiums in Japan, also, the Beatles was the first band to play in there.

 

In 1999, Shinjuku Loft was moved to Kabukicho in the entertainment district.

In 2011, Shinjuku Loft will be 35-year anniversary.

【Shimokitazawa SHELTER】

In 1991, it was opened in Shimokitazawa as a sister music night club of Shinjuku Loft. The city of Shimokitazawa is the area of youth culture. Around this year, Shelter was helping to create the Japanese Alternative Rock music.

Shelter is called “Gateway of Professional” by musicians. These musicians’ first purpose is One-man live in Shelter. Also, after became professional bands often come back to play in Shelter, so the high-quality lives are taking place in here every night regardless of the capacity.

(#2)Talk Live House (this is talk live show which is called Talk Live House in Japan)

In 1995, Japan’s first Talk Live House, Loft Plus One was opened at Tomihisacho in Shinjuku, and in 1998, it moved to Kabukicho in Shinjuku. Talk Live House is discussions about any subject which is included sub-cultures. These subjects are about music, movies, literatures or novels, manga, animations, sports, comedies, erotic, technologies, politics, economies, or any subjects in the world. In these topics, performers are discussing, and also audiences are able to participate to discuss them in this Talk Live House. Loft Plus One is highly evaluated in Japanese sub-culture. We can say creating Japanese sub-cultures.

Opening hour is from 7:30pm as “Night Time”, and from 0:00 am as “Midnight”. Mainly in weekend, it is opening from 1:00pm as “Day Time”. The information of the shows is updated on our website with the details. Sometimes, the topics are for adult, and then it tells requiring an ID.

The style is Izakaya (it is Japanese-style pub which is drinking alcohol with eating foods) in the live house and audience are enjoying the live show with eating or drinking them.

The feature of this live house is very close to the stage from the audiences’ sheets, and it makes an audience to participate in the discussing easily. As sister shops, there are “Naked Loft” and “Asagaua Loft”. Sometimes, the audiences are able to watch using Ustream for the shows.

 

【LOFT/PLUS ONE】

In 1995, the world first Talk Night club as “LOFT PLUS ONE” was opened. It is called “Talk Live House”. Many sub-cultures have grown up and started from here. Loft Plus One is a popular spot as younger to older people are able to enjoy, and mass-media often come for coverage. We are responding to cultural figures, writers, critics, musicians, otaku, erotic, comedians, or any kinds of subjects. We are also selling videos as DVD-R or VHS. Customers are often using the internet for buying them.

【Naked Loft】

In 2004, Naked Loft was opened in Shinjuku. The style of Naked Loft is an opened cafe, and distributing “Talk & Music” to the audience in the small creative space. There are 50 sheets and bar spaces which is able to watch the talking and music shows. The bar space is for where the performers and the audiences communicate easily. The entrance fee is much cheaper than other Loft’s clubs.

【Asagaya/Loft A】

Asagaya Loft A was opened in 2007. Simply to say, Asagaya Loft is a “space” where is mainly for communicating with performers and audiences. We are inviting people (performers) who have deep knowledge like, music, movie, theatrical entertainment, otaku, or any subject. The performers and their guests decide a theme to express, and then they are communicating to the audience by face to face. This is the concept in here. The themes are something appearing or disappearing in a town, traditional scenes, cannot say the truth, or any small facts. People, cultures, arts, lives, -”human”, we hope these themes are connecting to the other people and the world from here.

This label is releasing mainly for Japanese punk and melodic hard core in Japan.

This label is releasing melodic and popular music. Often, we are giving chances to the new musicians, then our artists are playing for various audiences.

 

 

【PLEASURE-CRUX :RECORDS LABEL】

PLEASURE-CRUX Label is mainly having importance in pure and power of music and taking care of relationships with Jazz, Jam bands, or Trance music. This label’s CDs are selling at variety stores, bars, restaurants, salons, or cafes.

 

 

 

【CRUX :RECORDS LABEL】

CRUX＝essence, it is the most important part, without regard to any categories.

The label emphasizes “artist’s energy” and “reality”. The label’s CDs are selling with our concepts.

 

 

 

【RoofTop　:FREE -MUSIC-NEWSPAPER】

In 1976, RoofTop, free-music-newspaper, was started. RoofTop has been publishing over No.300 from now. All Loft’s night clubs information is in this, including scheduling, new Loft’s CDs, interviews for artists, cultural news. This monthly free-music-newspaper is such a unique thing in Japan. Also, we are providing to the every audience who comes to Loft’s clubs, and other 350 places where are bars, cafés, salons, bookstores (not Loft’s stores).

Now, the circulation of RoofTop is 55,000.

 

 

 

 

【STUDIO IMPACT】

 

1. STUDIO IMPACT is a Loft’s recording studio. The concept of the studio is convenience for a band.

2. There are 4 booths and good for recording rhythms.

3. The cost of recording is very comfortable for a band. Also, we are taking care of consulting with the cost.

 

 

 

【ROCK OF AGES :EVENTS】

ROCK OF AGES is an event which is staged by Loft. A music night club is communicating with many musicians, and we have our distance to the musicians. We wanted to provide the distance and the reality, and when Loft was 20-year-aniversary, ROCK OF AGES was started at Nippon Budokan in 1997.

The next year, the stage was moved to Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall. The concept is “importance in relationship”, and many ska bands was played in “ROCK OF AGES SKA OF IT ALL”.

In 1999, “ROCK OF AGES 1999” was staged in rainy day also at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall. We focused in “real words from the musicians”.

In 2000, the ROCK OF AGES ’00 is titled as this year. The entrance fee is one coin (￥500）. The stage and audiences were set up very closed, and the new generation musicians gathered attentions.

 

“reality and real sounds” and “now”, we are recognizing if we can tell a lot of people about these moments, the Rock which is born from communication will be grow up to the world and the other generations. We feel together.
